Prof. Wafaa Bilal's 168:01 Project Opens at Esker Foundation in Calgary

Professor Wafaa Bilal's latest project 168:01 asks the people of Calgary, Alberta to help rebuild libraries lost during the looting of Iraq in 2003.

"It is a somewhat obscure, and sad, piece of recurring history in Iraq."

In his review for the Calgary Herald, Eric Volmers discusses Bilal's project. 

"Initially developed with the Art Gallery of Windsor and curator Srimoyee Mitra, 168:01 is a white library filled with 1,000 blank books. It is currently standing at Calgary’s Esker Foundation where, if all goes as planned, a group of librarians will replace the blank tomes with real ones from a wish list put together by faculty at the University of Baghdad." Read More
