Professor Lorie Novak received a Guggenheim Fellowship to continue work on her project Above The Fold: 22 Years of War 1999-2021, which examines the images that appear on the front pages of the New York Times from the NATO bombing in Kosovo in 1999 to the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021. Over 8,000 front page sections are categorized according to the content of the images above the fold.  In a quest to understand how photographs inform how we know the world, Above The Fold reframes and questions our media culture, reflecting on all that is at stake in hopes of imaging a more just future.
