In the Spring 2018 issue of PDN Edu, Dr. Deb Willis, chair of the Department of Photography and Imaging, was the subject of the "Ask a Curator" feature. The issue was dedicated to fine-art photography and Dr. Willis offered some words of advice for emerging artists:

"I encourage my students and emerging photographers I meet at portfolio reviews to visit exhibitions, art fairs and artists’ studios to see work and listen to artists speak about their work and their careers. I ask them to listen closely to the personal stories of how people develop their careers—it’s both inspiration and validation for their own dreams and aspirations."

Some of the artists Dr. Willis reccommended in the article include DPI alums Jessica Ingram (BFA '99) and Zalika Azim (BFA '15) as well as For Freedoms, the first ever artist-led Super PAC co-founded by DPI alum Hank Willis Thomas (BFA '98).
