Above: Excerpts from Arthur Cooke's senior project add in the smiles and I’ll be the outlines
It is with immense sadness that we share the news of the passing of Arthur Cooke, BFA class of 2018. Arthur’s creative talents knew no bounds – photography, video, poetry, collage, music, writing, and more. His vision was unique, and he had a very gentle way of seeing and communicating. His classmates speak of his generosity and consistent support, encouragement, and interest in their work and wellbeing. He listened and gave feedback with intention.
Arthur got his start in photography at Venice Arts, a neighborhood arts program in Venice, CA. In their beautiful tribute, we can see that Arthur discovered his personal way of imagemaking at a young age. He will be deeply missed by so many. add in the smiles and I’ll be the outlines
Magnifying images, sentiments, and moments. Losing touch all of the time. Filtering garbage, resting and restless, continuing habits and trying to break some of them. Overlooking and the act of going over your head - undermining and resorting to backing. Latest news and old alike intertwined in every second of life. Making trust and corroding it. Getting numb, desensitized poison.
Adrift and in the same sense here.
Helping yourself helps a lot of things. Selfishness in its inherent goodness not like the kind that keeps hopes in cornered locked walls or builds mass expectations. Maybe I’m completely full of it. Resolving pieces that were never in conflict. Treading in shallow water.
Losing sleep over daydreams.
