Cati Kalinoski

Cati is an academic and theater practitioner who works in theater design, directing, and dramaturgy. She engages in research in performance theory, theater history, continental philosophy, queer theory, decolonial studies, and culture-creation through images. Her recent work revolves around the performative aspects of the archive, and how the archives perform. She is interested in exploring themes of excess, representation, and power in archives, as well as the dynamic issues facing digitalization of archival materials. Recently, she has been exploring the representations and performances of museum exhibitions and archives as epistemological centers of culture-creation.

Her academic work was recognized by the Drama Department at NYU where she received honors for her undergraduate thesis Archives and Their Performances. She was also awarded the Artist and Scholar award for exemplary work in her artistic and academic work throughout her academic career.

Her design work has been featured at Ars Nova, The National Black Theater, The Hudson Theater Guild, The Trans Theater Festival, Dixon Place, NYU, and other venues around New York City. She has also directed the play, Crave, by Sarah Kane as a fully produced StudentWorks project at NYU. She has also written and co-directed CIDE at the MITU580 space in Brooklyn.

Why PS @ NYU?

I chose Performance Studies because I want to deepen my thinking in performance and merge my artistic and academic interests. I look forward to the collaborations ahead, the research, and being a part of an institution that believes in and encourages interdisciplinary study at the highest level.
