PS PhD students have opportunities to workshop a chapter approved by the advisor with the internal committee. Workshops are open to ABD students in years 3-6.
Policies:
- The Dissertation Chapter Workshop is intended to help students make concrete progress on their dissertations. The chapter should be approved by the advisor before circulating it to the other two members.
These one-hour long sessions will take place over zoom, and students can expect to receive extensive feedback from their committee. The committee will read the chapter as a close-to-final version.
Incomplete chapters (i.e. a set of notes, missing sections, half-written ideas, etc.) will not be accepted for the workshop.
Fall '25 Deadlines:
- Chapter workshop period: November 3 - 26, 2025
- Deadline to send chapter draft to advisor: September 15, 2025
- Advisor-approved draft due for circulation: September 30, 2025
Spring '26 Deadlines:
- Chapter workshop period: March 23 - April 17, 2026
- Deadline to send chapter draft to advisor: February 2, 2026
- Advisor-approved draft due for circulation: February 15, 2026
How to schedule:
Once your chapter is approved for circulation, please email the members of your core-committee, copying both your advisor and Alysha Casnellie (abc337@nyu.edu). Alysha will then work between you and your core-committee to schedule the hour-long Dissertation Chapter Workshop.
