ITP's Alumna Yeseul Song will present Two Subtle Bodies, an interactive auditory experience where two strangers walking inside a space experience each other’s peripersonal space through connected bone conduction headphones at Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden on Sunday, June 5. The subtle body is a concept that appears in Taoism and Dharmic religions to indicate bodies that are neither solely physical nor solely spiritual, in contrast to the mind-body dualism that has dominated western thought. By recognizing and perceiving this soft and fluid space between us, we can unlock new ways of connecting with each other that extend the sense of self and others.

Alongside the interactive installations, both of which will be open to visitors June 4 and 5, each artist will also hold an accompanying workshop at the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden.

On Sunday, June 5 at 2:00 p.m., Yeseul Song presents Sounds Like Us: Creating Collaborative Musical Instruments with Code. Participants will be invited to create a webcam-based interactive system where two people compose and activate sound together through collaborative body movements.

Participants will need to bring their own laptop computer and as such, advance registration is required.

Sound Scene 2022: Opens on Friday, June 3 with a special live performance from renowned creative pioneer Laurie Anderson, whose work is on display in Laurie Anderson: The Weather at the Hirshhorn.
