Alumnus Ang Lee was awarded France's highest order of merit: the Legion of Honour.

The honor, which is the highest civil and military order of the French republic, is awarded to people who have significantly impacted a certain field. It has gone to many celebrated filmmakers in the past, including fellow alumnus Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg.

David Kibler, Head of Cultural Affairs at the French Office in Taipei, said, "In the case of Mr. Ang Lee we are talking about his global contribution to the world of culture. The decoration has been awarded by our former President along with the diploma that comes with it."
