At this year’s Film Independent Spirit Awards Nominees Brunch, Grad Film alumni Mollye Asher and Rashaad Ernesto Green both received grants for their next projects.

Rashaad Ernesto Green won the Someone to Watch Award, which “spotlights filmmakers that have not received the recognition their work deserves.” His film Premature earned him the attention of the jury, a film The Hollywood Reporter calls “a modest, lovely slice of New York City naturalism about a black teen and her steamy summer fling with a slightly older man.”

Mollye Asher received the Unrestricted Producers Grant in recognition of her work on The Rider, an American contemporary western drama about a young cowboy who, after suffering a near fatal head injury, undertakes a search for new identity and what it means to be a man in the heartland of America. In her speech, Asher said, "I want to be bold...and challenge the industry and what they deem of value."
