The Tribeca Film Institute announced the recipients of their 2018 Through Her Lens Women's Filmmaker Program in partnership with Chanel, and four of the five film projects selected are by Grad Film alums.

Through Her Lens is a program that selects and supports five female filmmakers and their short film projects. All the projects will receive grants from Tribeca but one will be selected at the end of the program to receive full funding. The program will run from October 16-18 in New York City.

Four Grad Film alumni were chosen for this year's program. One is Francesca Mirabella, whose short Heather, follows a young, racially ambiguous artist, who confronts questions of identity when she becomes a part-time babysitter for 11-year-old Jayda.

Another is Jennifer Suhr, who is writing and directing What Is Your Soul Purpose?, a short about a sheltered Korean American family that travels to Atlanta to retrieve the body of their son after he passes away from an accidental overdose.

One of the shorts, El Timbre de Su Voz, is being produced by alum Shruti Ganguly. It follows Yaneris, a Dominical teenager, who plots a way to escape her hometown of Sosùa, where becoming an escort seems to be her only fate.

Another short selected, Rosa, is produced by alum Maryam Keshavarz. That short follows Rosa, who, while working at her aunt's flower shop, takes her job underground when she begins a side business of shipping undocumented bodies to their home countries for burial.
