Synopsis: A young woman reminisces about her deceased grandmother, whose volatile personality troubled and confused her as a child. Through snapshots of the young woman’s quiet childhood — as a toddler, teen, and young adult — we see their bittersweet relationship shift and evolve over unspoken gestures and surreal visual metaphors.

Charlene Xu is an award-winning animation artist now based in LA. She graduated from New York University with a degree in Film & TV in May 2020, and is currently pursuing an MFA degree in Animation & Digital Arts at University of Southern California. With extensive use of negative space, her work deals with meandering emotional experiences and memories, seeking to manifest the correlation between animation and poetry. Her film How Small! has been officially selected by multiple Oscar-qualifying film festivals including the Seattle International Film Festival, San Francisco International Film Festival, Bucheon International Animation Festival, etc.
