Laurel Akira Parmet is a filmmaker based in Brooklyn, NY. The daughter of a cinematographer, Laurel was raised on film sets and Kurosawa movies. As such, visual storytelling was always an essential part of her life. Today, Laurel focuses on stories about women, in all forms. She is currently a third year student at NYU's graduate film directing program.

Her latest short film SPRING premiered at SXSW in 2017, and won Best Student Short at Provincetown Film Festival a Special Grand Jury Prize for Performance at Dallas Film Festival. It has gone on to play at Palm Springs Shorts Fest, Maryland Film Festival, Outfest and many more festivals.

Her previous shorts have screened at numerous festivals around the world, and her music videos have premiered on Pitchfork, MTV Buzzworthy, Spin, Fader and the A.V. Club. She is currently writing her first feature.
