On the night of the 4th of July, 1982, ten year-old Vietnamese refugee Long leaves his hostile foster home with only “I’m hungry” in his English vocabulary. He arrives in Chinatown, where he meets V, a Vietnamese streetwalker who's trying to run away from the same Vietnamese gang he will soon find himself involved with. In the backdrop of the fireworks of America’s Independence Day, Long is forced to choose between the criminal brotherhood or the honorable but lonely path that V proposes.
