On the night of the 4th of July, 1982, ten year-old Vietnamese refugee Long leaves his hostile foster home with only “I’m hungry” in his English vocabulary. He arrives in Chinatown, where he meets V, a Vietnamese streetwalker who's trying to run away from the same Vietnamese gang he will soon find himself involved with. In the backdrop of the fireworks of America’s Independence Day, Long is forced to choose between the criminal brotherhood or the honorable but lonely path that V proposes.
Dan grew up in between the Vietnamese and French culture and went on to study Film & TV Production and Studio Arts at NYU. She now works primarily as a Director of Photography. Art for her is the emergency exit to freedom in the political context of her home country. As a filmmaker and aspiring pilot, she aims for her work to be the B-52 of her revolution.
