Growing up, J Wang (TSOA ’20) [she/her] wasn’t one to speak much, but she discovered a new voice through storytelling in film. Drawn to surreal narratives that explore the ways people connect—and sometimes fail to—J’s unique perspective earned her a place in the inaugural Steve Jobs Archive (SJA) Fellowship in 2023, a program uniting technology and the arts. The fellowship inspired her to embrace the creative process over the final product and provided a supportive community of mentors and peers. Reflecting on her journey, J recalls finding clarity and purpose in unconventional paths post-NYU during the pandemic. Read on to learn how filmmaking became J’s way of speaking to the world.
