Congratulations to Alum Jennifer Greco ('22) on being a semifinalist for a 2023 Student Academy for her film, Esmeralda.

Esmeralda, a mother and daughter story about survival and forgiveness, a NYU thesis short film from Professor Alrick Brown's class. The film also screened at L.A. Women Make Films presented by Slamdance & The Chimaera Project. It had its World Premiere at the Female Eye Film Festival in Toronto on July 29th. 

Esmeralda was shot in Colombia in 2022 with an NYU and Colombian crew. The lead, Ana María Estupiñan, is a Colombian actress best known for the Netflix series La Niña, and Ana María Sánchez from the Netflix series The Marked Heart. The NYU Akhtar-Bhutta Production Fund, The Chimaera Project Fund, APSAC, and executive producers Thorsten D. Meier & Matt Weaver supported the film. 

It was an important story to tell and the filmmakers hope to inspire and uplift women’s voices. 

Jennifer is a director and producer graduated from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts. Her Colombian roots are her biggest inspirations for storytelling. Jennifer's vision is looking through the lenses of real-life stories that highlight social-cultural issues and women's empowerment. 

Jennifer has a wide-range of experience working in the industry from Showtime, PRG, London Alley and Gro Creative. Her NYU’s intermediate short film Cat Person, has been selected to over 15 film festivals worldwide and has received multiple awards. She has also Coordinated the Brandi Carlile IMAX live stream, the Ralph Lauren Spring Fashion Show 2023, and Candy Crush Commercial featuring Saweetie and the Jonas Brothers. Most recently, she produced the Sueños Music Festival, one of the biggest Latin music festivals in Chicago.
