Production Shops and Design Studios

Scene Shop

The undergraduate scene shop is located on the corner of Waverly Place and Broadway.  Fully equipped with current technology, the scene shop produces scenery and props for the TISCH DRAMA STAGE series, and features dust collection and pneumatic tool systems, welding area, properties workshop, and classroom space. Prop Loan houses a vast collection of props and furniture from all periods.

Costume Shop

Centrally located on the 2nd Floor of 721 Broadway, the undergraduate costume shop creates costumes for hundreds of roles in Drama Department productions, and serves as a teaching space for costume design and construction courses. Fitting rooms, dye facilities, and wardrobe facilities are also located in the building.

Lighting and Sound Shop

Commonly referred to as the “E-Shop,” the lighting and sound shops support and maintain all relevant systems in all Drama Department theatres and classrooms. Audio consoles and microphones, moving lights and LED’s, as well as general production perishable supplies are housed here.

Studio 352 Design Classroom

Design classes from all disciplines enjoy ample natural light in this street-facing studio. Computer and printing facilities, accessible power outlets, various workspaces, projector and sound system all support a diverse offering of Production and Design courses. Open work time is built into the daily schedule to provide design students with the space needed to complete course work and projects. 

Studio 354 Computer Lab

Studio 354 is the computer lab companion to the Studio 352 workspace. “Bring your own device” or use one of the provided Apple workstations, and connect to multiple scanners, printers, and plotters - including a large format Canon photo quality plotter as well as a MakerBot 3D printer. Open work time is built into the daily schedule to provide design students with the space needed to complete course work and projects. 

Studio 358 Lighting and Sound Lab

Converted from an unused theatre space, Studio 358 is home to lighting and sound design classes. Lighting system includes ETC and GrandMA control consoles, inventory of conventional, LED, and moving light technologies, full lighting grid. The sound system includes D&B speaker system, Yamaha digital mixing console, Mac Mini (with relevant software), and integrated patch points throughout the space.  Perimeter curtain track allows for “black box” or “white wall” environments for classroom instruction as well as design idea trials using light, paint treatments, and costume fabrics.
