Celebrating 50 Years of Tisch Drama: Production Posters and sketches, faculty books, and snapshots of department and studio happenings honor a rich culture of creative collaboration.
The Anniversary installation, “Celebrating 50 Years of Tisch Drama,” opened this week in the Tisch Lobby showcase window, 721 Broadway, November – December 2024.
The exhibit, conceived and curated by Chris Jaehnig, Director of the Production & Design Studio, highlights five decades of creative collaboration at the Department of Drama, founded in 1974. "Designing the 50th Anniversary display has been a joy and a challenge," said Jaehnig. "Searching, crowd-sourcing via social media and ultimately resurrecting material that had been hiding for decades has brought back many memories. I started working for the Drama Department in 1985, so a lot of the images resonate with me. The hard part was to resolve, what do we show and what stays hidden?"
He added: "Fortunately, my approach was to show the depth, range, multiplicity and often, messy work of the department. I wanted to honor the output of our Theatre Studies colleagues, their book covers, flyers for panels and talk-back announcements. Dynamic elements of the department also appear on the monitors in the 721 window, including production photos, Theatre Studies class outings, candid pictures, and important work done in our studios. For me, this project has been a joyful walk through the memories of fifty years in the Drama Department."
