THE DEPARTMENT OF DANCE CHAIR SEÁN CURRAN RECENTLY TOOK HIS INNOVATIVE DANCE WORK TO THE OPERA, FUSING  LITERATURE AND CHOREOGRAPHY AT THE SANTA FE OPERA, AND WITH THE OPERA LAFAYETTE AT THE KENNEDY CENTER, AND LINCOLN CENTER, CREATING ROLES FOR NYU STUDENTS AND ALUMS IN THE PROCESS.

By creating roles for students Seán Curran continues to provide a bridge from life as a student to one as a professional dancer. The recent grads from Tisch not only made their professional premiers but also earned their American Guild of Musical Artists Union affiliation.

Since its formation, the Seán Curran Company has been commissioned for new works and presented by The Joyce Theater, The New Victory Theater, Dance Theater Workshop, Danspace Project at St. Mark’s Church, Symphony Space, the 92nd Street Y Harkness Dance Project, Central Park Summerstage and Celebrate Brooklyn. The company has presented sixteen premieres in almost fifty different venues in sixteen states, and in Germany and France.

“When I see something good that reminds me what dancing can be at its most basic, I’m faint with pleasure,” hailed Deborah Jowitt in The Village Voice after seeing the Seán Curran Company in performance. Pleasing audiences is exactly what the Company has been doing since it burst onto the dance scene in 1997. Known for his wit, intelligence, ingenuity and uncanny physical humor, Seán Curran successfully blends a myriad of influences into a purely original style. “

SCC will premiere a new work at BAM next wave festival in October 2015 - www.seancurrancompany.com
