DONNA COSTELLO is a multi-faceted dance artist centering the body as a deep vessel of expression. She works at the creative collisions of dance, theater, performance and education. Her artistry is inspired and shaped by the collaborative work she has created and contributed to performing for choreographers jill sigman / thinkdance, Vicky Shick & dancers, Shannon Hummel / Cora Dance (founding member), Jimena Paz, Carrie Ahern, Aviva Geismar, Karen Bernard, Nicole Mannarino, longtime teacher Barbara Mahler, Naomi Goldberg-Haas and more. In addition, she has engaged in her versatility as in projects by visual artist Nick Cave, immersive theater director Kelly Bartnik, composer Anne Hege, site-specific choreographer Stephan Koplowitz, filmmaker Anna Brady Nuse, theater groups the human company and Vagabond Inventions, and as a rehearsal assistant for Rebecca Davis, Vicky Shick and Pele Bauch.
Her choreographic collaborations have been presented and supported by Dixon Place, chashama, Triskelion Arts, BAX, Movement Research at Judson Church, the Flea Theater, Roulette, James Madison University, Estrogenius Festival, Women-in-Motion, MOtiVE Brooklyn, NACL and Performatica in Mexico. In the spirit of exchange, she co-produced a 5-day FemFest in New Orleans with co-conspirator Jennifer Sargent holding space for over 10 femme and female-identifying artists of mixed disciplines. She champions the authentic voice of young people and fosters creative expression in community – working as a dance curriculum specialist for Juilliard’s Global K-12 Program, a teaching artist for the Park Avenue Armory and in her 25-year history facilitating and deepening youth education programs with Brooklyn Arts Exchange (BAX).
