This summer, I interned remotely at the Library of Congress National Audio-Visual Conservation Center (NAVCC). My internship duties involved work on two copyright-related projects. The first project involved capturing metadata related to copyright descriptions of feature films made in the 1940s, to aid in the creation of a public database. Because many films from this era have been lost or destroyed, these copyright descriptions are an incredibly important resource for researchers. The second project involved determining whether films in the Library's collection within 20 years of copyright expiration can be made accessible on their streaming platform, the National Screening Room, under Section 108(h) of U.S. Copyright Law. I learned a lot during this internship, and I hope that my work increases access to important films in the Library's collection which are currently not available to the public.
