In the New York African Film Festival, my core responsibilities were three-fold: digitization, metadata remediation and cataloging, and research optical media migration. I gained experience with the vrecord software for magnetic media digitization, controlled vocabulary, command line tools, and disk imaging. The vrecord software was used for the digitization of the VHS tapes. I cataloged more than 150 items for the Film Collection, including formats such as 16mm, U-Matic, MiniDV, Betacam, and DVD. My research was focused on tailoring an optical media migration workflow for the DVDs on the AFF Archive. To achieve my internship goals, I used vrecord, FFmpeg, Airtable, and MakeMKV. I strengthened my skills with the use of controlled vocabulary and my understanding of interrelational metadata models. This internship experience was thrilling and provided me with specific skills to perform digitization, cataloging, and handling of digital assets.
