During the Spring 2025 semester, I completed my internship at Forty Acres and a Mule Filmworks focusing on applying learned archival and collection management practices to work on filmmaker Spike Lee’s private collection. . A great portion of the internship was devoted to the processing these two projects containing elements too numerous the mention. These collections were divided into two workflows for the purposes of the internship; alternating between them to maintain momentum without the tasks becoming too repetitive. Looking ahead, I hope to further develop my expertise in managing born-digital materials which has been an area of weakness considering my analog-focused track in MIAP. I’m also interested in gaining more experience with exhibition planning—an opportunity that sadly the internship site could not give me dude to the project timeline set before my start—particularly how personal collections are managed for public engagement and partnerships with other institutions.
