Andrew Reichel, Summer 2023

Friday, Sep 8, 2023

For my Summer 2023 internship, I worked at the Museo del Cine Pablo Ducrós Hicken under the supervision of Andrés Levinson (with additional supervision from Leandro Varela).

For my internship, I worked near-exclusively with analog film. Most of my work was with 16mm acetate film from the Museo's collection of projection copies, but I also worked with 8/35mm film, nitrate, negatives, and more. I predominantly inspected and repaired films using tape splices. I also helped to update the inventory system by adding updated stickers and writing on the cans holding the films. The films I worked with ranged from classic Argentine cinema, to films from their Antarctic collection, to physical education films.

I also digitized several titles using the Museo's Observer device, mostly the more obscure titles such as newsreels or physical education films. Several titles were ones that I had inspected and repaired as needed to ensure no issues with the sprocket gear on the Observer. I was also given the opportunity to load 16mm projectors for screenings at the Museo and at the Centro Cultural Kirchner.
