A movie movie: The Cinematic Experience of GoodFellas
A Book Talk by Dana Polan
Friday, November 20, 6:00 pm –7:30 pm
Michelson Theater, 721 Broadway, 6th floor

This book talk introduces my just-published BFI monograph on GoodFellas. As I argue there, “GoodFellas from the get-go is a movie movie – content overlaid with plays of visual (and aural) form in conspicuous manner.’ My talk presents this argument via frame-grabs from the film that accentuate its stylistic tics and the ways in which they insist on cinematic experience. It’s this overt and ostentatious style that leads some later films and TV shows to emulate moments from GoodFellas and I will outline some of these homages
