This event celebrates the launch of Transnational Cinema Solidarity: Chilean Exile Film and Video after 1973, published by the University of California Press in April 2025. After the 1973 military coup that put an end to the socialist government of Salvador Allende, most Chilean filmmakers went into exile, where they made more than two hundred films dispersed all over the world. Building upon extensive archival research, José Miguel Palacios tells the story of this radical cinema and argues for an understanding of transnational cinema solidarity as a widespread geography of political and artistic friendships that shape film production and circulation.
