Regional Media Legacies Project Update!

Thursday, November 11th
6:30 PM - 7:30 PM ET

Please join us for a project update and celebration of the Regional Media Legacies (RML) Project! A project made possible with support from the Robert David Lion Gardiner Foundation.

About the Event: The first phase of the Regional Media Legacies project is drawing to a close. RML Fellows Robert Anen and Claire Fox will share lessons learned and examples of completed work with partners such as Railroad Museum of Long Island, Straus Historical Society, L.O.V.E. Tapes Collective, Long Beach Historical Society, and more. The program will also feature presentations by MIAP graduate students sharing their experiences as interns supported by the RML project during the summer and fall 2021 semesters working with partners such as Coney Island Museum, Hallockville Museum Farm, R.C. Diocese of Brooklyn, Queens Museum.

About the Regional Media Legacies (RML) Project: In 2019, New York University's Moving Image Archiving and Preservation (MIAP) program launched the RML project. Media made for regional audiences, especially those housed in organizations that lack archival resources or the skills of audiovisual specialists, often constitute what libraries and archives call hidden collections—rare recordings that capture local history and culture in a way that larger and better-resourced media collections often do not. The archival profession and scholarly community now recognize that local television, home movies, the works of independent artists, and region-specific productions tend to document lives and communities that are often invisible to national media and the entertainment industry.

We’ve continued to learn more about the local region, and to experience media with unique historic and artistic content. We look forward to sharing more with you all!

This event is free and open to the public.
