BFA Film & Television, New York University

Blake R. S. Alcide is a writer, director, and activist based in New York City. Through poetic imagery and natural dialogue, Blake reveals truths from voices that are rarely amplified—Black women in predominantly white spaces, quiet yet scared love, and feminine rage. Through poetic imagery and lived-in, unfiltered dialogue, her work explores themes of systemic power, distrust, and questioning authority. Her work moves across genres, but love remains its constant: untimely, complicated, and persistent. From tragedy to comedy, her films give alternative Black women representation and their world a visual presence. With film at the forefront of her activism, Blake has also worked with various nonprofit organizations to further disrupt and drive change.

After graduating from Tisch School of the Arts with a BFA in Film & Television, Blake went on to concentrate in Radical Media: Punk Politics, Critical Artificial Intelligence, and Cinema through NYU’s Arts Politics M.A. program. Furthering her education has also given her, as an artist, an opportunity to think seriously about the systems surrounding creative work—who has access to those systems, whose voices are supported, and how artists can participate meaningfully in creating change.
