M.A. Arts Politics Class of 2023

How do you currently describe your practice?

I currently describe my practice as emerging somewhere between theater creation, art activism, and education. It is versatile and continually changing; particularly as I meet new concepts, and people and collaborate across disciplines.

What has been your favorite moment of your Arts Politics experience?

My favorite moment so far in Arts Politics has been the opportunity to engage directly with the intersection of community-engaged work and dynamic art making. While visiting APP alumni across the city, it became clear to me just how expansive and meaningful this work can be!

What has been most challenging during your time in Arts Politics?

One of the most challenging (but rewarding) parts of this program has been the confrontation with the multiplicity of obstacles that we face as human beings. This realization has reminded me how important it is to consider every perspective around you and always prioritize a response that centers on human well-being, kindness, and growth.

What are you working on post-grad?

After graduation I will be working as a theater artist-educator in Minnesota and will be looking towards pursuing a Ph.D. in performance studies/theater historiography.

How has the Arts Politics program unfolded or shifted how you approach your work?

Being in the Arts Politics program has instilled much more confidence in myself, particularly as it relates to my work. I feel much better prepared for the political and artistic worlds beyond those in academic institutions because of this program!
