M.A. Arts Politics Class of 2023

M.A Theatre Studies, University of Glasgow, 2021

Julia Hegele is a writer, organizer, and journalist based in Brooklyn. After securing her undergraduate degree at the University of Glasgow, she moved to New York as a part of the 2023 APP cohort. As a cohort member she continued her work as a performance artist and researcher, making poems out of conversation and performance out of trash. Since graduating, Julia has had the honor of serving as the Editor in Chief of New Voices Magazine, the nation's oldest leftist Jewish publication by and for students. She has written on anti-zionist histories, mobilization of students, and the historiography of the Jewish left, alongside a plethora of work detailing the legacies of Irish and Jewish labour relations. She created and edits Golem Zine, a publication illuminating the work of Diasporic Jewish creatives. Julia is also an experienced grant writer and is always happy to workshop a proposal for a creative or administrative venture. She can be found at the beach, at the Metrograph, or writing her desk with her cat, Martini.

What drew you to the M.A. in Arts Politics:

I was drawn to APP by the idea of a crucible, just a collection of some of the best professors and thinkers all working to draw out the best in your creative practice. I wanted a program that would give me space and nurture my craft at the same time. I very much found that.
