Romina Chuls is a visual artist currently working with textiles and ceramics. Her art projects address postcolonial gender issues related to androcentric memory, land exploitation and, sexual and reproductive practices. Romina has a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, with a major in painting, from the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Peru. Later, she continued training with several courses on pre-Hispanic textile techniques, such as brocade and cross-knit looping. She has participated in art residencies at Arquetopia (2017, Oaxaca), at Textile Arts Center (2018-2019, NYC), and Gasworks Ceramic Studio (2019, NYC). As the founder of the “Qué Rico Menstruo” project, Romina has lead embroidery therapy workshops in the cities of Lima, Oaxaca, and New York. Additionally, she has reinforced her training in gender studies with short-term courses such as “Gender, Human Rights and Public Policies” at Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú. In 2020, Romina's second solo show, “Clandestinas”, took place at Galería Forum (Lima, Perú). Her work has been shown in group shows across Peru and abroad, the latest being “Contextile: Contemporary Textile Art Biennial” at Guimarães (2020, Portugal).

Romina has been granted the AAUW International Fellowship for the M.A. in Arts Politics, where she will continue her latest project, a look into pre-Hispanic textiles and ceramic iconography as the means that hide a history of pregnancy interruption practices, a first approach to imagine how to decolonize our abortions.
