M.A. Arts Politics Class of 2022

B.F.A. Theatre Arts/Directing, The Theatre School with Double-Minor in TV Production and Screenwriting at The School of Cinematic Arts, DePaul University

A graduating B.F.A. Acting-turned-Directing concentration from The Theatre School at DePaul University, Bair believes the arts hold the power to disarm, educate, and unify all of humanity. Growing up as a person of color in predominantly white institutions, he learned to use humor as a means to de-escalate, educate, and redirect bigots, bullies, and even racists in his environment. At only twenty-one years old he has already worked at nationally-acclaimed venues such as the African-American Arts Alliance, Congo Square Theatre, The Second City, and Victory Gardens! At DePaul, Bair acted in and assistant directed multiple DePaul mainstage productions in the Theatre School, as well as successfully writing and producing multiple projects at the School of Cinematic Arts---Including his directorial debut, the award-winning short film, FROM YOUR FORMER LOVER (FromYourFormerLover.com) and the animated sci-fi series PLANETZ! (Planetz2020.weebly.com) After NYU, Bair intends to earn a PhD to further amplify his impact as an artist, educator, and organizer. Bair intends on utilizing the arts & entertainment industry as a vehicle towards pioneering a more diverse and accessible planet. Using his first nonfiction book “For A Free Theatre” as a blueprint, Bair plans on establishing community centers which provide several public programs through the arts.

What drew you to the M.A. in Arts Politics?

My former professor at the Theatre School, Ricardo Gamboa, taught me how to become a better artist and activist through the training they received in the Arts Politics program. I hope the training I receive at Tisch will help me gain acceptance into fully-funded PhD programs, which will amplify my voice as an artist, educator, and organizer. Additionally, I plan to finish the manuscript for my first nonfiction book, "For A Free Theatre: A New Model In 3 Acts."As well as obtaining literary and talent agents to help me secure meaningful positions in the Arts & Entertainment Industry.
