What drew you to the MA Arts Politics program?

My two greatest passions in life are theatre and trans advocacy. When I came out as trans during my time as an undergraduate Drama major at NYU, I struggled to find my place as a performer. As inclusive as the world of theatre may appear, I found that it was an extremely binary practice -- one that had little space for gender exploration. Unsure of how to make this work for me, I became very involved in LGBTQ advocacy, working at a number of national organizations. However, I could not shake my love of theatre, and yearned to find a way to bring these two parts of my life together. When I found out about the MA in Arts Politics program, I was immediately interested. During this year, I hope to marry my love for theatre with my passion for social justice and politics, creating change for my community through art and performance.
