André Dereoux Smith is an accomplished multi-hyphenate, husband and father. In the past 10 years, his work has lived in the world in the form of playbooks, campaigns, exhibitions and university curriculum. 

In Smith’s time at Tisch—where he was a Fletcher Foundation Fellow—his academic advisor was the artist Karen Elizabeth Finley. He worked as a Teaching Assistant to art historian RoseLee Goldberg, founder of the Performa Biennial. Smith took full advantage of the university system in his time at NYU—taking MBA electives at Stern Business School and business of the visual arts seminars at Steinhardt School of Culture—where, amongst fieldwork projects for Creative Time and Twitter. Before art and academia, Smith cut his teeth for years with large-scale projects, AOR accounts and 360 campaigns for Media + Entertainment, CPGs, Card Services, Spirits, Tech, Luxury + Travel, Ltd. Run Collaborative Merchandise and Influencer Marketing.

Most recently at The Martin Agency—named The 2020 Agency of The Year (AdWeek)—Smith was Planning Director of Social Strategy in TMA’s Social Studio and Cultural Impact Lab, where he worked with other Director-level colleagues across disciplines on new business. He worked across domestic and global accounts including Hanesbrands Inc., UPS and AXE (Unilever). His past leadership duties have included Special Projects at MasterClass and Big Think, Strategist at IPGMediabrands and Strategy Chief at 1stAveMachine. 

Prior to his return to brand and agency creative, Prof. Smith was a Visiting Lecturer at the University of Illinois at Chicago in the Managerial Studies Department at the College of Business Administration. At UIC, he served on the undergraduate curriculum review board ('19- '20) taught Global Marketing, Ad Sales & Promotions as well as Consumer Behavior through RFPs, GMPs and Creative Briefs. Outside of the classroom Prof. Smith is still an independent art curator, programming producer and voice of hybrid creative strategies on numerous projects with SFMoMA, Adidas, AmEx, Live Nation, Soho House, NeueHouse, Gavin Brown’s enterprise and Qualcomm... to name a few.
