Joy Zimmerman

Joy was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She has attended an art studio since the age of three, and her perception of the world has been significantly influenced by this experience. Through her contact with the arts, she realized early on that certain human expressions cannot be channeled through reason, and that aesthetics can be useful to discern things that are beyond comprehension. In order to understand our society (and our history), it is imperative that we study its relationship with the objects it builds. With this idea in mind, she decided to study architecture at the University of Buenos Aires (UBA). Soon after, she became a teaching assistant at UBA and was also selected for a research internship with the Director of the American Art Research Institute at UBA. Later, she obtained a full scholarship for the Masters Program in History of Architecture and Urban Culture at the Torcuato Di Tella University, from which she has recently graduated. Since 2015, she is also pursuing a Ph.D. at the University of Buenos Aires with a research-oriented scholarship. Her doctoral research is focused on architecture historiography. She believes that the crucial and complex role played by the history of art in our societies calls for a detailed analysis of the ways in which we approach it.
