MA Arts Politics Class of 2016

BFA Illustration, Parsons the New School for Design

It is namely art that has been the pursuit of my scholarship, but science, medicine, and technology have always informed my practice. I am invested in science fiction as both an osmotic space between science and the imaginative act, and a potential tool for decolonizing knowledge and information dissemination. Much of my current endeavors are in and around the lack of legibility specifically in the field of biology, with attention to bioethics and science philosophy/history. I currently work as an artist with the UCSF based educational organization, iBiology, on experimental life science textbooks. At the home base I work in collaboration with the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.

What drew you to the M.A. in Arts Politics?

It was its proposition to interrogate personal and interpersonal artistic practice in relation to the generalized term "politics."

How did your experience in the program shape your work? Is there a particular moment or project that you can remember as having an impact? Please describe.

Within the careful frame of this program I was able to de-differentiate knowledges, experiences, opinions, endeavors, and identities and blend them. I was able to focus the vertex of my work and name what it was that I wanted to do and more importantly name the responsibilities required by this pursuit.

What are some of the challenges and/or rewards of this program?

Time is always challenging.
