Daniela Tenhamm - Tejos

Daniela is a Chilean choreographer and teacher. She is interested on extending the arts to a wider community, and specifically on encouraging the embodiment through the dance practice.

As a body practitioner she is fascinated on how people share space throughout the recognition of their own body as an aesthetic and political experience. The intimate way she approaches movement and artistic creation is strongly connected with her need to acknowledge the personal story behind each person and place.

It is also her interest to conduct intermedia research to challenge the manifestation of the body. Thereby, her aim is to link the materiality of the body itself with a variety of medias and to see what emerges from such an experience.

What drew you to the MA Arts Politics program?

I wanted to connect my dance practice with a wider community, and to enrich it with a more socially engaged viewpoint.

How did your experience in the program shape your work?

It helped me shape my practice in terms of understanding the why and how of my work. It was great to have the chance to deeply investigate theoretically and methodologically how to better express myself. It was also very important to me to be surrounding by different roles, and different disciplines within the arts.

What are you doing now?

I am working on the Body Narratives methodology, a method I developed throughout the MA Arts Politics. My aim with it is to reveal the personal way of moving, through guided improvisation. I am also working on the production of a sound installation piece, which will bring together the Body Narratives method with my interest on the act of listening.
