Current Art and Public Policy MA Student Nina Riley was awarded a commission through the Working Theater's Mark Plesant Commission Fund, which supports the development of new plays by working people. Nina worked alongside mentor Chisa Hutchinson for about 2 months to develop a one act play. The commission culminated in a staged reading with professional actors, and Director Marcus Harvey, on October 23, 2022. Nina plans to produce and stage her original play titled, "A Colored Girl In Yellow."
A Colored Girl In Yellow is about a family torn apart by the loss of their grandma. With the help of a backyard garden, they learn to handle loss, grief, and conflict in their journey back home.
