Ngọc-Trân Vũ '13 has been honored as one of The ARTery 25 - Millenials of Color Impacting Boston's Arts & Culture.
The ARTery discussing the honor:
"A new generation of creative professionals is growing into its power. These artists are rigorous but not tradition-bound, informed by the canon but not tethered to it. And they operate in both grassroots scenes and in storied institutions.
With The ARTery 25, we sought to capture the spirit of this new Boston.
We focused on young people of color, recognizing that diverse creatives have historically been under-credited, underfunded or unnoticed. Cultural equity requires intentionality."
Trân currently serves as program manager for AIR (The Association of Indepdendents in Radio) advocating for public media, while also pursuing projects as a multimedia artist. Her work involves storytelling and community organizing, particularly centered around engaging Vietnamese immigrant communities that include families like hers. In talking about one of her recent mural projects, Trân reflects, “For me, thinking about the process of the art-making, making sure that it was intergenerational, that it was bilingual, that it was reflective of the community has been the most important thing in my work.”
She is also a cultural organizer with Stable Ground residency, which works with community organizers around anti-displacement efforts in Dorchester's working class neighborhoods.
