Art and Public Policy Alumni Antonieta Landa (2022) will launch La Revista, Chilean Creatures Magazine at Mil Mundos Bookstore on Tuesday 6/28 at Mil Mundos Bookstore, 323 Linden Street in Brooklyn. La Revista is a magazine that seeks to be a platform for Chilean artists and creatives working or showing their work in the USA. The work aims to explore and complicate the idea of a static identity and how it is expressed in artistic expressions outside its original territory. The project is supported by NYU's Latinx Project NYU through the Public Humanities Fellowship

About La Revista:

“Our magazine is a platform for Chilean artists and creatives working and/or showing their work in the US. Why should we be bound by a single identity? This platforma is all about exploring and complicating the idea of identidad and how it manifests outside its original territorio.

Although we don't have many answers, we ask ourselves how a body of work can exist and be made in a single country, how new audiences are addressed, and how identity can be affected when work moves from one country to another.

About la lengua, aside from being a living sign system, language is also a cultural representation. So we made Spanglish our official forma de expresion. Hold your caballos, everything will be understandable to an English-only audience, but we just don't want a binary system that separates the language into English and Spanish, but instead a combination that represents the migrant condition of belonging to two places, of identifying with two geographies and showcasing its belleza and complexity.

We believe firmemente that the Latine community needs to strengthen its representation in the American artistic landscape, but at the same time, we are convinced that our diversity is part of our strength, the rich tapestry that is the Latine culture needs to be represented with each of their colorful threats if we want to be a contribution to the melting pot that is the United States of America."
