J. Gordon Arkenberg

Adjunct Instructor

John G Arkenberg

Gordon Arkenberg's cinematography work spans the range from lyrical documentary, psychological thrillers, to experimental work. Each film is distinct but altogether are part of a greater effort for me to discover hidden facets of the world and our psyche. Within documentary he has traveled the world for the festival favorite The Meaning of Tea, which investigates our relationship to the second most popular drink after water. Gordon has constructed his own 3-D camera for the award winning short film The Viewer, directed by NYU alumn Graham Reznick. With Reznick he recently lensed Shudder TVs first original show Deadwax. Gordon maintains active work in the film industry having worked regularly as a focus puller on At Home With Amy Sedaris the past two seasons, and with the film unit of Saturday Night Live.

Gordon has taught at NYU since 2007 and has focused his time solely on Science of Cinematography since 2010. When not knee deep in research about some arcane aspect of cinematography he is taking care of his vegetable garden or restoring vintage steel bicycles.
