Andrea Zujko
Adjunct Instructor, Onsite Physical Therapist
Andrea Zujko PT, DPT, OCS, COMT is a licensed and board-certified physical therapist, certified Pilates instructor and educator in the dance medicine field. Andrea graduated with her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine in 2002. Post-graduation, Andrea received her Certified Orthopaedic Manipulative Therapist (COMT) credential from the North American Institute of Orthopaedic Manual Therapy in 2010 and her Orthopedic Certified Specialist credential from the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties in 2013. In 2013, she also completed a comprehensive motor control curriculum, The Movement Solution with Mark Comerford and Sarah Mottram (Kinetic Control).
Prior to physical therapy, Andrea pursued a career as a professional dancer and completed her Pilates certification (The Pilates Studio) under the direction of Romana Kryzanowska and Bob Liekens. She started practices at the River North Club (Chicago) and David Barton Gym (NY) and taught for several years with Power Pilates (NY). Andrea began her physical therapy career in 2001, working at AthletiCo in Chicago treating dancers from The Joffrey Ballet, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, Ballet Chicago, and several Broadway tours. In 2002, Andrea joined Westside Dance Physical Therapy (WSDPT) where she is currently a senior physical therapist and the clinic manager of the practice. As part of her work, Andrea provides onsite care to the dancers of the New York City Ballet (NYCB).
Outside the clinic, Andrea has contributed to publications for the American Physical Therapy Association as well as the Journal of Dance Medicine & Science, Dance Spirit, Pointe, and Dance Magazine. She has also participated in several presentations locally for NYCB and at the annual International Association of Dance Medicine and Science conferences (Montreal 2019, Denver 2021). Past on-site PT coverage includes School of American Ballet, Miami City Ballet, Joffrey Ballet Company & School, American Ballet Theatre, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, Ballet Chicago, Movin' Out, The Lion King, Aida, The Little Mermaid, Avenue Q, Barnard College Dance Dept, Spiderman: Turn Off the Dark and Westside Story (Film).
In 2012, Andrea became an adjunct professor with the Tisch School of the Arts Dance Department at New York University. In addition to providing onsite PT care and Pilates instruction, Andrea is currently teaching functional anatomy classes to the BFA Dance Majors.
Andrea started teaching continuing education coursework in 2008 through her involvement with WSDPT's Dance Medicine Practicum. In 2018, she was recruited by Johns Hopkins Hospital to teach the didactic content of their Dance Medicine Fellowship Program. In 2020, she started her own company, Dance Medicine Education Initiative (DMEI) to focus on collaborative, professional continuing education for the healthcare and allied healthcare practitioner.
