Benjamin Freedman

Benjamin Freedman is a New York–based choreographer, performer, and educator whose work spans concert dance, opera, film, and commercial theater. He won the BroadwayWorld Off-Broadway Award for Best Original Choreography for House of McQueen, and served as choreographer and associate director for West Edge Opera's Eliogabalo and David and Jonathan in Oakland, CA. Concert dance creations include An Orange Peeled, Road Movies, Breaking the Waves, Strawberry Jam and Liederkreis. He served as choreographer and stage director for the Golden Globe–nominated feature She Came to Me, directed by Rebecca Miller.

As a performer, Freedman began his career with the Mark Morris Dance Group, featured in the PBS special L'Allegro, il Penseroso ed il Moderato, filmed at the Teatro Real in Madrid. He has been a member of the Sean Curran Company since 2014, where he currently serves as rehearsal director. He is entering his ninth season with the Metropolitan Opera, where he has performed in Champion, Salome, Ainadamar, The Magic Flute, Turandot, Der Fliegende Holländer, and Samson et Dalila, and as a soloist in Agrippina. Other opera credits include Lyric Opera of Chicago, Santa Fe Opera, Opera Lafayette, Opera Saratoga, Against the Grain Opera, and Opera Columbus. Off-Broadway, he performed in Third Rail Projects' The Grand Paradise and Company XIV's Nutcracker Rouge and Boylesque Bullfight. He has also danced with Keigwin + Company, The Bang Group, Jennifer Muller/The Works, and Peridance Contemporary Dance Company, among others. 

Freedman earned his BFA from NYU Tisch School of the Arts, where he currently serves as an adjunct professor in the dance department.
