UGFTV Professor Susan Sandler’s new documentary Julia Scotti: Funny That Way will make its New York premiere next month at NewFest, New York’s largest presenter of LGBTQ+ film and media. The film tracks the life of comedian Julia Scotti, whose transition in her late 40s motivated a return to the comedy stage and a reunion with her previously estranged children.

Sandler’s film was supported by several Tisch Dean’s Faculty Grants and features a team filled with Tisch faculty and alumni, including animator Sam Roth, cinematographer Stephen Roll, editor Marsha Moore McKeever, and consulting editor Lewis Erskine. Julia Scotti: Funny That Way made its world premiere at the Nantucket Film Festival and will be available for virtual NewFest screenings beginning October 16.
