For generations of NYU Tisch filmmakers, Sight & Sound Filmmaking has been more than a class; it has been a rite of passage and a defining part of UGFTV culture and community. Sight & Sound Filmmaking: The American Filmmaking Engine, created and curated by Professor Rick Litvin, explores the remarkable legacy of the course that has launched countless creative journeys and helped shape the language of contemporary cinema.

Through exhibitions, publications, conversations, and archival materials, the initiative celebrates 75 years of filmmaking, innovation, artistic discovery, and the shared experience that has connected generations of Tisch filmmakers. Since its founding, Sight & Sound students have created an estimated 165,000 films, making the course one of the most prolific filmmaking programs in the world.

This artistic initiative will unfold throughout Summer and Fall 2026, beginning with two launch events in June. View the initial exhibit from June 9th - 26th in the front windows and lobby of Tisch School of the Arts at 721 Broadway.
