Walter Murch discusses the world of Sound
"Portait of an Artist" is an Open Arts class instructed by Brane Živković about the life and career of famed filmmaker and editor Walter Murch. During the first week of class, Živković surprised his students with a Skype call from none other than Walter Murch himself! During his call, Murch discussed the multiple languages of sound, working with Francis Ford Coppola, and when his interest in sound first began. Murch even took questions from the class regarding what influenced him the most and how to continue to be interested in your work. While discussing the latter, Murch made it clear that the way to excel in anything in life, art or otherwise, you must never get comfortable. You must always push yourself to a place where you feel challenged. After this interaction, all of the students can't wait to see what this semester has to hold for them!
