The Kitchen
ITP Alumnus Tristan Perich at the Kitchen
with So Percussion, JACK Quartet, ACME, Dither, X88, and Mariel Roberts
March 17 + 18
The Kitchen presents two evenings of compositions by Tristan Perich. The first night includes the premiere of Perich's first work for two pianos, for Vicky Chow's duo X88 flanked by two raw 18-inch speaker cones. The evening also features new versions of works for ACME and Dither Quartet, the first pitting pulsating rhythmic textures à la his recent circuit album Noise Patterns against a slow-motion harmony, and the latter exploring the nature of saturation and interference patterns with electric guitars and 1-bit frequencies.
On the second night, So Percussion and JACK Quartet premiere a major expansion of Perich's Sequential, for string quartet and percussion quartet. The work is Perich's largest for acoustic ensemble with gated amplification, transforming the ensemble's bowed instruments into a precise, angular tapestry of timbre. Mariel Roberts opens the evening with Perich's Formationsfor solo cello and 1-bit electronics, which New Sounds called "driving, hypnotic, and exhilarating."
Price: $20 per night; $30 for both nights
