Jason Snell (IMA Low Res ’23) has been selected as a Fulbright U.S. Student Program Grantee for a Study/Research Award in Germany. His project, Synchrony, expands on his IMA Low Res thesis work and explores the neuroscience of techno. He will explore how brainwave-responsive sound and visual systems can preserve and transmit the lived experience of rave culture.
Building on his research in musical neurofeedback at NYU, Snell will develop interactive tools using EEG-based systems that allow audiences to experience the sensory and psychological states associated with 1990s rave culture. Working with Berlin-based collaborators, the project bridges neuroscience, art, and cultural preservation, creating new forms of immersive archives for museums and classrooms.
