Jaye TC Cho
Class of 2023
Jaye is an interdisciplinary artist from Taoyuan, Taiwan. Jaye considers zirself ze/zir but doesn't mind being called by any pronouns. After all, English is not zir native language. Ze holds a BA in Political Science and International Development from the University of California, Berkeley, and an MFA in Painting & Drawing from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
Ze currently lives and works between New York and Taoyuan and has exhibited zir work in the U.S., Russia, Germany, China, and Taiwan. Zir's work ranges across media: from paintings, video, sculpture, and performative work dealing with themes of melancholy, ephemerality, loss, and temporality. More recently, ze has turned to digital media, exploring space, the in-betweenness, and fears/possibilities of connection.
“The extent to which Jaye respects — or, indeed, even understands — the funny/serious dichotomy is unclear.” – Nic Johnson, Art Critic from the University of Chicago
