Dismantle + Co-Create 2022!

You're invited to the Dismantle + Co-create festival!

Dismantle + Co-Create offers attendees a place for critical engagement with material culture at the intersection of technology and art.

On Friday, participants will physically dismantle objects while guest speakers deliver flash talks that connect an aspect of critical theory to the theme of dismantling. We will have mediators present to help foster discussion around the act of “dismantling” as a political, social, and/or meditative act.

On Saturday, participants will then be challenged to use the pieces around them to create new objects. Speakers and guests will host workshops that connect aspects of critical theory to themes of community-building, world-envisioning, and co-creating. Workshops will include trash, craft, and eWaste; a generative writing workshop on erasure; and repurposing plastic bags into durable coin purses.

Participants can attend a portion or the entirety of the day, and are encouraged to come and go as they like.

RSVP AND MORE INFO HERE.

Note on objects: Participants are encouraged to bring their own objects to be dismantled, but they are all subject to a safety check (nothing with screens, high voltage, risk of chemical leak, etc.) We will provide tools for dismantling and repurposing (screwdrivers, scissors, glue, etc.) as well as a collection of objects. Each participant will receive their own mini toolkit to take home with them!

Location: we will be in-person at Gallatin and in-person at ITP (370 Jay Street, Brooklyn). Participants are encouraged to join us at either location. We will broadcast back and forth between the two locations so that anyone who would like to join remotely can do so. Note to the public: visitors from the public are not permitted into NYU buildings due to COVID-19 restrictions. We welcome the public to join the event via zoom! RSVP for a zoom link.
