This film delves into the remarkable journey of YouTube, from its humble beginnings to its profound impact on our world. Followed by the screening, there will be Q+A segment with Alex Winter moderated by Justin Hendrix.

The YouTube Effect had its world premiere at Tribeca in June, 2022, completed a sold-out theatrical run in July of 2023 and is now being released worldwide on digital from Drafthouse Films. We would be delighted to have you join us for this screening.

Film Synopsis: In "The Youtube Effect," Director Alex Winter explores the ascension and acceleration of YouTube, a video-sharing website that started with humble origins and has gone on to change how we experience the world. With exclusive access to some of YouTube’s biggest stars, the film presents an eye-opening and troubling look at the platform now so powerfully embedded in our lives.

Alex Winter is a director, writer and actor who has worked across film, television and theater. Winter is the founder of Trouper Productions, which services his documentary work. In 2020, Winter released two new documentary feature films; Showbiz Kids, premiered on HBO to widespread critical acclaim, garnering a Critics Choice nomination for Best Score. Followed by Zappa, the first all-access documentary on the life and times of Frank Zappa. The Kickstarter campaign for this project was the highest funded documentary in crowdfunding history. Zappa was released by Magnolia Pictures to widespread critical acclaim. A Critics Pick in the New York Times, Zappa was nominated for Best Music Documentary by the Critics Choice Awards.

Justin Hendrix connects companies seeking to advance digital media technologies with university capabilities in order to drive collaborative innovation. Before joining NYC Media Lab, Hendrix was Vice President, Business Development & Innovation for The Economist Group in the Americas, where he directed the Group’s innovation process, including prototyping, testing, and commercializing new digital media business concepts. Prior to this role, Hendrix directed brand marketing and communications and ran The Economist’s thought leadership events business in the Americas
